This past Saturday, we embarked on a scenic cruise aboard the Lu Lu Belle, a tour boat operating out of the Port of Valdez in Alaska’s Prince William Sound. Captain Fred and his crew took us on an amazing journey to observe the region’s abundant wildlife and stunning natural landscapes. Our voyage treated us to …
Here are a few more photos of our visit to Seward and Homer, Alaska, with Meghan, Emily, and Matt!
As part of our Alaskan National Park adventures with Meghan, Emily, and Matt, we planned to embark on an 8½-hour cruise with Kenai Fjords Tours to experience Kenai Fjords National Park and to have dinner on nearby Fox Island. The morning was gloomy, with rain and low clouds obscuring the mountains and fjords so we …
One Family’s Wilderness: Lake Clark National Park and Dick Proenneke’s Cabin
We arose early, hopeful for another day of adventuring, and were greeted by another beautiful sunrise as we gazed across the Cook Inlet from our amazing AirBnB near Homer, Alaska. I had checked the aviation weather sites and was certain that the high winds were going to scrub our flight for the day. Imagine my …
The day after we all met at our AirBnB in Homer, we were off for our first official Alaskan adventure together as we boarded a Northwind Aviation de Havilland Canada DHC-3 Otter floatplane bound for Katmai National Park. Despite an early morning weather delay, we were soon crossing the Cook Inlet and soaring high above …
The one where Donna & David leave Santa Fe and start their (mostly unplanned) journey East! Season Two of our journeys began today as we rolled out of Santa Fe Skies RV Park in Santa Fe, New Mexico. We just spent nearly two weeks in our seventh hometown (for those keeping score: Los Angeles, La …
Sitting here in Santa Fe, looking out at those wide open New Mexico skies, it is hard to believe that we have just completed nearly five months of full-time RV life. During that time, we’ve driven about 10,000 miles, added 12 National Parks and 2 new states (Oregon & Washington), and became the owners of …
After nearly two years, it was time to bid a fond farewell to Al Denty, our Airstream Basecamp 16x, as we prepare to take delivery of our new Airstream Flying Cloud 30FB Office. We traveled to Socorro, NM, to meet the new owners and then went to Salina Pueblos National Monument.
Our last adventure with the original Al Denty, our Airstream Basecamp 16x, took us from Santa Fe to El Morro National Monument, Petrified Forest National Park, an unscheduled hotel night in Ontario, California, back to Malibu, and our final night of camping with Al Denty I at Houston Mesa Campground near Payson, Arizona. Oh yeah, Doug came along too!
A short vignette of our visit to the 2022 Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta! When we moved to New Mexico, we knew we would have the chance to finally check this event off our bucket list. After a brief weather/wind hold, the balloons were finally allowed to fly. Once they did, the sights, sounds, and feelings …
Come along on a hike above Big Tesuque Campground in the Santa Fe National Forest as we take a look at the beautiful autumn leaves and colors just a few minutes above Santa Fe, New Mexico.
To complete Utah’s Mighty Five, we needed to go to Zion National Park and Capitol Reef National Park. Since it was too hot in Zion we decided to camp at Cedar Breaks National Monument and were floored by its beauty (not to mention the starry skies and lack of crowds). Oh yeah, we also went to Teec Nos Pos Trading Post and Horseshoe Bend.
On our way to happily attend the wedding of Emma and Brady, we stopped off at Black Canyon of the Gunnison. We then headed up to Salt Lake City for the wedding and to spend some time with the kids. After the wedding, we went to Moab to visit Arches and Canyonlands.
Twenty-five years after first hatching the idea of moving to Santa Fe, New Mexico, we actually did it! This is the story of our move, accompanied by photos and a quick ‘goodbye to Park City’ video.
An unexpected Southern California sojourn thanks to David quitting his job (i.e., we used his resignation as an excellent excuse to head out with our Basecamp 16x on yet another adventure). This time we went from red rocks and snow to white sands and sun to the Arizona desert (yes, yet another visit to Cedar Pocket) and back to the Wasatch Mountains.
Back on the road with our Airstream Basecamp 16x, this time to Southern California to spend Thanksgiving with our family, including our new granddog, Carl the Sheepadoodle.
A brief report (photos included) of our visit to Great Basin National Park with our Airstream Basecamp 16x. The highlight of our weekend was our hike to Rock Glacier. We hiked past ancient bristlecone pines to a glacier at 11,000′ and we also visited an Alpine Lake. It was fall and the foliage was amazing!
Our amazing week in Colorado, including Rocky Mountain National Park, Great Sand Dunes National Park, and Mesa Verde National Park. Our original plan did not include Great Sand Dunes, but when we saw it on the map, we decided to make a detour even though that meant missing our planned ranger tour of some cliff dwellings at Mesa Verde. This is the story of our adventure!
