What A Year!
In 2022, we moved from Park City to Santa Fe, initially planning for a long-term stay. Despite enjoying our time in the new city, our growing wanderlust, fueled by journeys in the Airstream we acquired in 2021, led us to contemplate exploring more cities, regions, and National Parks.
So, in March of 2023, we embarked on a full-time road trip in a larger Airstream. We have 3 primary goals: visiting all 50 states, exploring all 63 U.S. National Parks, and embracing a simpler, more enjoyable lifestyle.
In 2023, we visited 21 National Parks, drove through 23 states, and put about 25,000 miles on our truck. The statistics on our website show that our overall totals so far are 36 of 63 National Parks and 30 of 50 states. And yes, we are thoroughly enjoying our adventures!
Over the next few months, we will make our way toward Southern California to attend our daughter’s law school graduation!
Our journey west will be a slow one, starting from our current location in the Florida Keys, up through the Florida peninsula, then west along the Gulf Coast, into our home state of Texas (2 National Parks!), where we will take care of mundane stuff like car registration, annual doctor’s appointments, and the semi-annual dental visit. Oh yeah, there are also two National Parks in Texas!
From Texas, we will make our way through New Mexico (1 more National Park!) and Arizona before spending some slow-down time in San Diego, Palm Springs, and Los Angeles.
Immediately after the graduation, we will point the truck north to The Great Land: Alaska!
There are 8 National Parks in The Last Frontier and we intend to visit every one of them! It will be 4 months from the time we leave Southern California until we return to the United States with a visit to Glacier National Park in late September.
By the time we settle down again for a long winter’s rest in California again, we should have added 15 U.S. and at least 2 Canadian National Parks, 1 new U.S. state, and 3 Canadian provinces.
