We went out and left the vent open, not realizing that a thunderstorm ⛈️ with drenching rain was going to roll through. The bathroom fan didn’t survive. ☠️

Here’s the full replacement, start to finish, in just 60 seconds ⏱️. Sped up, sealed tight, and surprisingly satisfying to watch 😌

🧰 Tools used:
Screwdriver, utility knife, caulking gun, caulk, wire cutters, wire strippers, cordless drill, and a bit of regret 🙃

🌊✨ PARK #50 & VOYAGEURS’ 50TH! ✨🌊

We just visited Voyageurs National Park.

It was our 50th National Park, the 50th most visited, and its 50th anniversary! 🎉

There’s something magical about a park you can only explore by water. We stayed for a week at The Pines of Kabetogama Resort where, once we learned how to properly pronounce cab-bet-TOE-geh-muh, they let us rent a boat for a day so that we could explore the pristine waters of the park on our own and (BONUS!) bring Doug along for the ride! 🐕⛵

The scenery was beyond words (but we shall try). Endless wilderness, crystal-clear water, and that perfect Minnesota serenity that makes you forget the outside world exists. Every turn revealed another breathtaking view, tiny island, or striking landscape. We can’t wait to share the videos (once we catch up!). And Doug? He loved having the wind in his ears all day long! 😄

We weren’t quite sure what to expect from Voyageurs, but it has made at least one of our Top 10 Lists! You’ll just have to wait for us to hit 63 to find out whose.

National Park #49: Indiana Dunes 🏖️🪵🚂

Knocked another one off the list — hello, Indiana Dunes! Spent a few chilly, rainy days exploring Indiana Dunes National Park! Interspersed around the steel mills and other industry in the area, the dunes and the lakeshore were quite beautiful. We snagged a campsite inside the park at the NP campground — a gorgeous spot, though the facilities could use a little love and there could be fewer mosquitoes. 😑

And since we couldn’t see the Chicago skyline from the National Park (Canadian wildfire smoke), we hopped on a train to The Windy City for a fun day trip!

49 parks down, 14 to go! 👏

They say that Marfa is all about the art and the food. To be honest, other than one amazing meal at @cochineal_marfa served to us by artist @artist_richard_arthur (who used to live in San Diego too), we think the town is overhyped. And that was before a railroad spike found its way into our tire! 🫠 Despite that, we’re glad we visited to check it off our list. If you find yourself in West Texas, you should too.

📸 2, 3, and 4: Prada Marfa - driving along US 90 towards Marfa, we almost missed it. It looks like a Prada boutique, but it isn’t - just a fun place to stop and take some pictures.

📸 5: Sleeping Figure - a collection of containers set-up to look like someone relaxing. We were just driving down a road and saw it.

📸 6 & 7: 15 Untitled Works in Concrete - in a field of dirt and dust, a collection of concrete cubes.

📸 8: Restaurant Cochineal - DO NOT MISS DINING HERE! This was one of the best meals we’ve ever had. We were lucky enough to get a reservation to enjoy the chef’s tasing menu - and everything was unbelievable!

Hueco Tanks State Park, just outside of El Paso, was a very cool surprise. It’s named for the large rock basins or “huecos” that have supplied water to this desert region going back 10,000 years. We were lucky enough to snag one of their 20 campsites for 3 days. One of the best hikes is the climb to Cave Kiva and the incredible rock art paintings left by the Jornada Mogollon people when they passed through the area almost 1000 years ago. There is no trail - we were given a paper guide with descriptions of what to look for as you head up the rock face. We kept our eyes peeled for the “duck” and then the “alligator” shaped rocks. Just beyond the “alligator” was the cave, a small opening we almost walked right past. Donna climbed in and found the amazing paintings. So worth it!

We love Tucson! Did you know they call it, “America’s Biggest Small Town?” We like it there so much that we’ve returned three years in a row! Why? The culture, the food, the hiking, the cycling, the star gazing, the National Park (in two parts) and, as we discovered on our last visit, the vintage neon signs all around town! David mapped them all out (I mean, of course he did, right?) and we spent an afternoon finding, photographing, and enjoying them, all while imagining the evening glow of a town that embraces both its past and its present.
