We’ve been cyclists for almost 40 years, so one of the best parts of living full-time in the Airstream is being able to hit some of the most iconic roads in the country on two wheels.

We put in some miles through Marathon and crossed the Seven Mile Bridge to Pigeon Key, then back to Marathon Park, and Tom’s Cut Harbor Bridge. We kept the bikes on the pavement and sent the drone up to capture the scale. There’s no better way to see the Middle Keys (or anywhere for that matter) than from a bike, and no better way to see the ride than from the air.

Reflecting on an amazing two-month Florida Keys re Reflecting on an amazing two-month Florida Keys residency. 🏝️ Leaving is never easy, especially after six weeks in the Lower Keys, but tomorrow we pull up the stabilizers and start heading north. But here’s the best part of life on wheels: there’s always another sunset waiting around the bend. We’re sad to leave the salt air behind, but excited for the adventures waiting down the road. 🚐💨

David found Sammy Creek Landing while he was out b David found Sammy Creek Landing while he was out building cycling miles, and it turned out to be the perfect final paddle before we leave the Lower Keys. 🚲➡️🛶

Why we loved it:
🌿 The Mangroves: A winding, peaceful maze. If you follow the tide, you can navigate these all the way toward the Gulf side.
🏝️ The Atlantic Flats: Shallow sandbars and crystal-clear flats where sea birds hunt for food.
🧽 The Wildlife: We spotted some massive Loggerhead Sponges. These “living hotels” are a staple of the Keys’ ecosystem and a sign of a healthy flat. (tip of the hat to the guide from @biscaynenationalparkinstitute on our Boca Chita Key trip back in December).

Putting in here is super easy, although there’s a very small parking lot so you may have to park out on the road. Also, make sure to check the tide charts before you go. We were surprised by how strong the current was as it rushed from the mangroves out to the Atlantic. It reminded us of a Seiche on the Great Lakes. It’s amazing how much water moves through these ‘cuts’ when the tide is ebbing!! 🌊

This year’s highlight reel, distilled. 9,500 miles This year’s highlight reel, distilled. 9,500 miles with the Airstream (and a lot more with the truck), 64 different campsites, and a year shaped by moving together through places that left a mark. From caverns and canyons to border towns, ballparks, lakeshores, islands, memorials, and finally a long, slow winter in the Keys. Every day on the road together (and with Doug) feels like a highlight, even if Instagram only gets a fraction of it. We also managed plenty of time with family and friends, even if we were too busy enjoying those moments to photograph them (we’ll try to do better this year, Mom! 😘). Wishing everyone a year full of health, love, luck, happiness, and success, with memorable destinations, meaningful discoveries, and as few dents as possible.

Thirty seconds of Halloween fun at our campground! Thirty seconds of Halloween fun at our campground! From superheroes to skeletons, we saw it all, but our favorite might’ve been the football referee in sunglasses with the red-tipped cane. 🤣 Doug seemed to be the highlight for most kids (and adults) who visited, but we still handed out more than 200 pieces of candy, so be prepared! 🍬

Stay safe tonight: drive slowly, watch for kids and pups, and have fun out there! 🎃

This is our Doug today 🐾 He developed a hot spot ( This is our Doug today 🐾 He developed a hot spot (“moist dermatitis”) on his left leg that he wouldn’t stop licking and biting. So instead of our planned adventures, we made a 2½-hour roundtrip to a great urgent care vet clinic near Albany, NY this morning. Thankfully, it should clear up in a few days. In the meantime, he’s stuck with the Cone of Shame.

The cone makes life interesting in our tiny shiny home, but as we always say: it’s all part of the adventure.

This was one of those dents: our plans derailed and Doug needed help. The discovery was an important one for full-time travelers with pets: many local vets won’t offer same-day appointments to new clients, so urgent care is often the only option on the road.

Big thanks to @upstateveterinaryspecialties for taking such good care of Doug! They checked him out, gave him antibiotics, pain meds, and even a little something to help him not mind the cone. Everyone there was kind, caring, and professional.

Despite the cone, Doug’s already feeling better, and we’re grateful. 🙏🏻
