We love Tucson! Did you know they call it, “America’s Biggest Small Town?” We like it there so much that we’ve returned three years in a row! Why? The culture, the food, the hiking, the cycling, the star gazing, the National Park (in two parts) and, as we discovered on our last visit, the vintage neon signs all around town! David mapped them all out (I mean, of course he did, right?) and we spent an afternoon finding, photographing, and enjoying them, all while imagining the evening glow of a town that embraces both its past and its present.

And with that, the 2024 season of full-time RVing

And with that, the 2024 season of full-time RVing comes to an end. We started the year in the Florida Keys, traveled along the Gulf Coast to Texas, through New Mexico, Arizona, and California. Then up through Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, and Montana to Alberta, BC, The Yukon, and finally into Alaska! Following our Alaska adventures we headed back down through Canada until finally ending the year back in Southern California. Our year was full of incredible destinations and discoveries but was not without its dents. Still, we feel blessed and fortunate to be enjoying this nomadic lifestyle, to have our 42 year relationship, and most of all for our friends and family. 2024 was quite a year and we can’t wait to see what 2025 brings. Happy New Year!

8 parks, 1 epic journey! 🏞️🐻🌲 With careful planning, a lot of luck, and some amazing pilots (Johan, Jason, and Eric) and captains (Emma and Naomi), we were able to visit all eight of Alaska’s U.S. National Parks this summer, and we’re still in awe. From glaciers to grizzlies, every moment was pure magic. And sharing 3 parks with our kids? Priceless. We are so glad that @megsdb @emilysbernstein and @teddy_tedrow were able to join us!

🚀 Time-lapse of us playing “Airstream Tetris” with our Starlink dish! Usually, the dish goes on a flag pole attached to the hitch jack, but this time it was pointed right at a tree. 🌲 By putting it on the roof, we avoided the tree and still got reliable internet for work and streaming. It was a tight fit between the A/Cs, fans, skylight, cell booster, TV antenna, and 1KW of solar panels, but we made it work! 💪📡

Pit stop in Whitehorse, Yukon's capital and largest city! 🏙️

The S.S. Klondike, a historic sternwheeler, was under renovation, but we still managed to snap a photo and a selfie. We'll be back in August, hoping the work will be done by then. Fun fact: The S.S. Klondike is the largest vessel to navigate the upper Yukon River, thanks to @mnemsmom2 for the info! Speaking of large, the Yukon Transportation Museum boasts the world's largest weathervane—a retired DC-3 aircraft! ✈️

After restocking on food, diesel, cash, and a few other supplies, we headed into town to restock our tummies with tacos (yes, tacos!) and margaritas at @lacara_yxy. Their neon sign said, "Exhale stress, inhale tacos," and we happily followed that advice! 🍹🌮

Next up: Departing the Alaska Highway to join the Klondike Highway to Dawson City. After a few days enjoying that Klondike Gold Rush town, we’ll cross the river by ferry and traverse the Top of the World Highway to Alaska! Our adventure continues! 🛣️

Our adventures in the Yukon begin! 🇨🇦🚐

The serpentine Alaska Highway weaves its way between British Columbia and The Yukon, crossing the border a total of 7 times between Liard Hot Springs and Teslin. Along the way, we stopped for two nights at Watson Lake Provincial Campground for some peaceful boondocking. Watson Lake lies at the junction of the Alaska Highway and the Campbell, with the Stewart–Cassiar Highway about two dozen kilometers away.

To travelers, Watson Lake is perhaps best known for the World Famous Signpost Forest, which was started in 1942 by a homesick soldier working on the Alaska Highway who put up a distance sign pointing toward his hometown. The idea must have stuck because there are now more than 100,000 signs in the forest, including ours! We customized our deactivated New Mexico plate and gave it a new home among thousands of others. We thought this was a fitting tribute to our full-time RV journey that began in Santa Fe last March. From the Land of Enchantment to the Last Frontier - what a ride it's been!

The Sign Post Forest and the massive 'Welcome to Yukon' sign are must-sees. Each tells a story of adventurers passing through, just like us, each leaving their mark on these unique Yukon landmarks.

Traveling the Alaska Highway is an almost indescribable experience! And it kept surprising us with its lonesome beauty and serenity at nearly every turn! After Jasper, we headed up the road to discover some hidden and not-so-hidden gems along the Alaska Highway! 🛣️

Strawberry Flats Campground at Muncho Lake was an almost unexpected oasis for us. The lake’s deep aqua-green waters, framed by majestic mountains, created a postcard-perfect scene. As the sun dipped low and a few brief showers passed by, the sky was painted with a stunning rainbow — this photographer’s dream come true! 📸🌈

Next stop the following day was the campground at Liard Hot Springs Provincial Park (the first campground we’ve ever stayed in that was surrounded by an electric fence to keep the wildlife out) where we soaked in these world-famous natural hot springs. Nature’s own spa, anyone? 🧖‍♀️🌿

Jasper National Park: where adventure meets sereni

Jasper National Park: where adventure meets serenity! 🏞️ From iconic photo ops to breathtaking natural wonders, our time in Jasper was unforgettable. We kicked things off with a classic snap at the Jasper sign -- because did you even visit if you didn't get the sign pic? 😉

Maligne Lake stole our hearts with its turquoise waters and mountain backdrop. Along the way to and from the lake we saw bears, eagles, and moose (see previous posts for wildlife pics). But one of the real gems for us was The Valley of the Five Lakes hike. Doug was in his element as we trekked through vibrant forests and past crystal-clear lakes and past elk grazing without a care. We also treated ourselves to some luxury at the historic Jasper Park Lodge. And no trip to Jasper is complete without witnessing the raw power of Athabasca Falls.

Home base was the newly renovated Whistlers Campground. Our Airstream had plenty of room to spread out and soak in the mountain air, and we appreciated the great new facilities!

Jasper, you're a slice of wilderness paradise we won't forget anytime soon! 🏔️🐾

Memories (from last month) of cruising the Icefields Parkway in our Airstream with Doug, our four-legged co-pilot! 🐾🚐 The drive between Banff and Jasper is a feast for the eyes - towering mountains, ancient glaciers, and vast ice fields at every turn. Plus, we've never seen so many RVs outside of a show! 😄

Our overnight spot at Icefields Centre RV Park might just take the award for best views in our 1½ years of full-time RVing: Mounts Athabasca, Andromeda, Snow Dome, Kitchener, and Wilcox, plus the Athabasca Glacier right outside our window! We attempted a hike for a closer look at the Columbia Icefield, but we turned back after a mile of trudging through deep snow and slippery ice. Doug was (mostly) loving it, but we humans knew when to call it quits and head back for cocktail hour! 🐶❄️
